UCL grows its King’s Cross footprint

Already one of the larger occupiers of buildings in King’s Cross, UCL has added a further 17,000 sq. ft. to its portfolio by taking an assignment of the lower ground + ground floors of 77 Wicklow Street, London WC1X 9JY.

77 Wicklow Street has its own front door and being over only 2 floors, is an extreme rarity in King’s Cross.

This contemporary building was, for many years, the headquarters of Squire & Partners Architects before being leased by Heatherwick Studio, another household name in the design and architectural profession.

After a short interlude of being occupied by a non related but equally well known organisation, UCL will continue the tradition of architectural excellence at 77 Wicklow Street by housing some of their architectural faculty within the property.

It would be fair to say that this transaction was complicated by a number of challenging issues but cool heads and a pragmatic approach helped guide this transaction over the line.

Ashurst Real Estate and Pilcher London represented Heatherwick Studio with the assignment of its lease, whilst UCL were represented by Gerald Eve.
